Affiliate Disclosure
steampunkary.com, published by Webhaus LLC, is supported by affiliate commissions. This page explains plainly what that means.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site lead to products sold by other companies. If you buy through one of those links, the site may earn a commission on the sale, at no extra cost to you. The links are marked as sponsored in the page’s code, and every page that carries them says so near the top.
As of October 2026, the company that pays a commission to this site is:
- Amazon, for costume pieces, goggles, craft supplies, decor and books. As an Amazon Associate, steampunkary.com earns from qualifying purchases.
Etsy, through an affiliate network, and costume retailers may follow once the site is accepted into their programs. This page will list each one when it is, and until then their links on this site earn nothing. Shops the site mentions without an affiliate relationship, such as specialist outfitters cited for their own prices, are linked as plain sources and pay the site nothing.
The Outfitters' Catalogue
Practical guides, such as a guide to goggles or to a costume, carry a spread called The Outfitters’ Catalogue after the introduction. It gathers the products the guide names into numbered plates (Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and so on), each marked with its budget: Thrifty, Mid-range or Heirloom. A switch at the top shows one budget at a time.
The catalogue carries an Ad label because the links in its plates can earn the site a commission. Every plate is something the guide itself names or recommends, in the order a reader would buy them. A product is not placed in the catalogue, or kept out of it, for what it pays, and no maker or shop can pay to appear there. A budget with nothing honest in it is left out.
What commissions do not change
The guides are written from the sources cited for each article: museums and scholars for history, makers’ own instructions for techniques, manufacturers’ sheets for safety, sellers’ own pages for prices. Where a guide prefers one option to another, it gives the reason, and where making a piece is cheaper or better than buying it, the guide says so. The site does not accept payment for coverage, does not publish paid reviews, and does not invent ratings.
The editors have not handled every product a page names, and a page never implies that they have.
Prices
Prices the editors read on a seller’s own page are given with the month they were checked. Amazon and Etsy prices are never written into the pages by hand. Where a catalogue plate shows an Amazon price, it comes from Amazon’s own systems with the date it was fetched, and the price shown on Amazon at the time of purchase applies.
Advertising
The Ad label on the catalogue is the only advertising on the site at present: no banner advertising and no advertising network, and nothing on a page is placed or written in exchange for payment. If that changes, this page will say so first.
