Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel was a German biologist, physician, naturalist, philosopher, professor, marine biologist, as well as a talented artist. Ernst Haeckel was born on February 16, 1834 and died on August 9, 1919. During his life, his accomplishments included the discovery, description, and naming of thousands of new species and mapping a genealogical tree that related all life forms. He is also responsible for coining many biological terms that we use today including the terms ecology, phylum, and stem cell. Ernst Haeckel had many published works that included numerous scientific memoirs and illustrations.
